Natural Retail Group is proud to announce the new look of our commissary truck.
Thanks to the help of Sign Zoo, located in Sarasota our once plain white refrigerated box truck now has a brand new look of fresh colorful fruits and vegetables. So now when you see our truck driving down the road be sure to wave to our driver, or better yet follow him to one of our stores where we are sure you will find all things delicious and tasty.

Paper or Plastic?
There is a big debate going on now about what bags to use as grocery bags... paper, plastic, reusable? We believe that the best choice is the reusable bag. And to demonstrate that, we offer the biggest rebate for each cloth, nylon or mesh bag that a customer uses for purchases. Most stores offer 5 or 10 cents, or even nothing. We offer a 20 cent rebate because we believe that the cause is worth it. We also sell reusable bags at a great price to further promote their use.
However, many customers have not yet formed the habit of using reusable bags. When making the decision to continue to carry plastic bags, we recognized that customers varied in their choices. We even asked them what they prefer. Some chose paper, some plastic, and some reusable. When asked if we should get rid of plastic bags, the resounding answer was, “No.” Some people like to reuse the plastic bags in a variety of ways. Others like the fact that it takes less time to bag the groceries. Some liked the ease of carrying a lot of groceries at once with plastic.
Some people are under the impression that paper bags are better for the environment, but when we looked at the statistics, we discovered another story. Both the production and recycling of plastic bags use less energy and produce less pollution than that of paper bags. Estimates vary on how much less, but they all seem to agree that it is certainly less. Plastic bags also take up much less space than paper, and they weigh less, which means less gas for transporting. The big concern for plastic bags is that when not disposed properly they can enter waterways where they threaten the lives of the wildlife that depend on these habitats. We encourage our customers to recycle all plastic bags so that this threat is avoided.
So the decision became clear to us. We want to continue to give our customers the choice, while promoting the use of reusable bags above all others. We hope that gradually more people will choose reusable.
Aquisition of Waterfront Market; Key West, Florida
Key West, Florida – March 6, 2008 - - Natural Retail Group, Inc. (NRG) announced the acquisition of Waterfront Market, a retail and wholesale grocer. This acquisition is an effort to build upon the success of Natural Retail Group, a retail division of United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) the country’s leading independent distributor of natural foods and related products.
Waterfront Market, located on the water in the Historic Seaport District of Key West, began as a wholesale business but later expanded to retail, offering quality products to the community and visitors of Key West. The store offers fresh produce, seafood, meat, sushi and prepared foods along with natural and organic groceries, beer and wine, and a fresh juice bar with internet café. The wholesale department provides produce and groceries to over 50 local restaurants and businesses. Waterfront Market was formerly owned for 20 years by Buco Pantelis who stated, “Waterfront Market is very much a community store.”
Natural Retail Group plans to keep it a community store. The acquisition will provide the means to bring a wide selection of UNFI’s natural, organic and gourmet products to the store, improve upon the existing services and continue the strong commitment to the community. NRG plans to expand the deli area, offering more variety in freshly prepared foods, such as cold foods, hot foods, soups, salad bar, and ready to eat foods. They also plan to offer more variety of grocery and supplement products, always keeping customer requests at the forefront.
NRG has begun transitioning the employees, policies and procedures of Waterfront Market in order to improve upon the success and integrity of the business. They welcome Waterfront Market employees and customers and plan to work together to make it a smooth transition.
